Thomas Spoor MD OphthalmologyDr. Thomas C. Spoor is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas, San Antonio, followed by a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in Neuro-Ophthalmology and Orbital Surgery. For over 20 years, Dr. Spoor was an academic associate professor in Ophthalmology and Neurosurgery teaching at the University of South Carolina, University of South Alabama, and Professor, Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich. respectfully.

Dr. Spoor has trained hundreds of ophthalmology residents and over 30 fellows in his subspecialties. He has had numerous publications, presentations and has published 7 books on various aspects of his subspecialties.

Currently, Dr. Spoor runs a successful private practice specializing in neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery in metro-Detroit and he divides his time between the Sarasota Retina Institute and Detroit area hospitals. He is world renowned for his pioneering work in oculoplastic, orbital and neuro-ophthalmic surgery. He is especially noted for his outstanding work in optic nerve surgery in innovative treatments of patients with optic nerve dysfunction.
